Frequently asked questions

Candles are meant to create a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere, and we want your experience to be smooth and stress-free. Take a few simple steps to care for your candle, and it will take care of you. It's about safety, quality, and making sure every moment with your Puckett's Scents candle feels as good as it should.

Why is candle care important?

Proper candle care is crucial for both safety and enjoyment. If a candle isn’t used the right way, it can burn unevenly, create too much smoke, or even become a fire hazard. Simple things like trimming the wick or not burning it for too long can make a big difference. We want you to feel comfortable and confident using your Puckett's Scents candles, not worried about something going wrong. It also helps you get the most out of what you’re buying; proper care means your candle lasts longer, smells better, and burns the way it’s supposed to.

What are the top 3 most important care tips?

The top three things we’d want every customer to know are simple, but they make a huge difference in both safety and how well the candle performs:

1. Trim the wick before every burn: Keeping the wick around ¼ inch helps the candle burn clean and evenly. It prevents too much smoke, soot, or a large, unstable flame. This small step keeps the experience smooth and safe.

2. Let the wax melt all the way across on the first burn: The first burn sets the “memory” of the candle. If you blow it out too early, it can tunnel (burn straight down the middle), wasting wax and shortening the candle’s life. Letting the top fully melt ensures an even, long-lasting burn.

3. Never leave a candle unattended: Always keep candles within sight, away from anything flammable, and out of reach of kids or pets. This is the most important safety rule—candles are meant to relax you, not create risk.

What common mistakes should i avoid?

Definitely—there are a few really common mistakes people make that can ruin the candle experience or even be unsafe. We’d want to help customers avoid these:

1. Blowing it out too soon (tunneling): One of the biggest mistakes is not letting the wax melt all the way across the top, especially on the first burn. This causes tunneling, where the candle burns straight down the middle and wastes a lot of wax.

2. Not trimming the wick: If the wick is too long, the flame gets too big, which can lead to smoke, soot, and uneven burning. It also makes the candle burn faster than it should.

3. Burning it for too long: Keeping a candle lit for more than 3–4 hours can overheat the container, affect the scent, and become a safety risk. Shorter, controlled burns are better.

4. Placing candles in the wrong spot: Burning a candle near drafts, fans, or vents can cause uneven burning, flickering, or dripping wax. It can also be dangerous if it’s near flammable items.

5. Ignoring safety completely: Leaving a candle unattended can lead to serious hazards.
